  • This is the Rolex Day-Date 228206. Within the Rolex line, the Day-Date is often the model that is associated with the highest level of luxury. Introduced in 1956, it was the first timepiece to display both the day and the date on the dial. Traditionally associated with prestige, the Day-Date line was produced solely in precious metals with an option of a smooth or fluted bezel.

Added to the catalogue almost 60 years after the original Day-Date, the Day-Date 40 was introduced in Baselworld 2015, replacing the outgoing Day-Date 41. Equipped with a then-new movement, the cal. 3255, the Day-Date 40 was a decidedly modern take on the brand’s most luxurious dress watch. In particular, this Day-Date 40 sets itself apart from the others due to the Arabic dial with the distinctive Eastern Arabic numerals. Fitted with an ice blue dial that is only found on platinum Rolex watches, the dial is adorned with mirror-polished hands and indices in a darker shade of blue. Often associated with Middle Eastern royals and opulence, the elusive Arabic dial was originally produced in the 1950s as the brand recognized the affluence and growing importance of the area.

Truly a statement piece in both aesthetics and in heft, the Arabic Day-Date remains one of the most recognizable Day-Dates since the advent of larger 40mm case. With distribution restricted to selected authorised dealers in the Middle East, the Arabic Day-Date remains one of the only models in the brand’s catalogue to not just be limited by production numbers but also by geography.

As far as modern Day-Dates go, Rolex has come up with some truly stunning models with impeccable diamond settings and mesmerizing stone dials. That being said, given the exclusivity and prestige associated with the Middle East editions, it is little wonder why they remain among the most limited and most desirable.

  • This Rolex Day-Date 228206 Middle East Edition is in excellent pre-owned condition. There are only very minor signs of wear in the form of hairlines on the case and bezel with no dings or dents. The caseback has a hairline from prior wear but remains in excellent overall condition. The watch comes accompanied with the original inner and outer Presidential Rolex box, the manuals, green tag and card dated 2020 with the corresponding serial and is in full working order.
