This is the Piaget Polo reference 7131. Founded in 1874 by Georges Edourd Piaget, the brand has been a manufacturer of movements and movement components for more than a century. With a focus on ultra-thin movements, Piaget produced and sold its own wristwatches from as early as the beginning of the 20th century as well as supplying movements and movement parts to other renowned watch brands.
Introduced in 1979 by Yves Piaget, the Piaget Polo marked a defining moment for the brand. An ultra-thin gold wristwatch that was envisioned by Piaget during the mid-1970s with its development of the ultra-thin 7P quartz movement, the Polo was introduced in both a round and square case with majority sporting the signature quartz movement.
With a luscious aesthetic representative of the time, the square Polo was more commercially successful due to its seamless integration with the bracelet. Equal parts wristwatch and bracelet, with a satin-brushed gold finish and a hidden clasp, the crown of the Polo was situated on the caseback to retain the perfectly symmetrical outlook.
A watch that has been worn by celebrities from Robert DeNiro to Michael B Jordan, the Polo is truly a watch that transcends both eras and trends. While the case size is seemingly small in number, the integrated bracelet allows the Polo to effectively be unisex. Unabashedly opulent, the Piaget Polo remains an integral part of the brand's history as a watchmaker and is possibly the model that best represents it. Of the many notable models that the brand has produced since then, it is likely that the Polo will remain the most important.
