Cartier Santos Dumont Platinum 1575

This is the Cartier Santos Dumont 1575 in Platinum. The origins of the model began in 1904, when Louis Cartier’s good friend, Alberto Santos-Dumont, wanted a wristwatch to accompany him while he was flying due to the impracticalities of the pocket watch. In 1906, he was the first ever person filmed in a flight sporting the iconic Cartier watch that was designed by Louis Cartier and the rest, as they say, is history. Among the many Cartier timepieces, the Santos is arguably their most recognizable model alongside the Tank and these two remain the fundamental references that underpin the brand’s ethos.

Highly distinct with its case shape, exposed screws and Roman numerals, the Santos is among the most famous time-only watches. Through all the brand’s innovations, the design of the Santos has largely remained the same. Armed with a Frederic Piguet-based 021 MC manual wind movement that allows the case to remain ultra thin, the 1575 remains one of the most timeless dress watches among its peers.

In addition, this particular 1575 is encased in platinum which is often the most elusive metal used for watch cases. Decorated with a guilloche dial prevalent in the succeeding reference 1576, the platinum variant of the 1575 is truly a perfect blend of two important references of the time.

This Cartier Santos Dumont Platinum 1575 is in excellent vintage condition. There are only very faint signs of wear on the bezel for its age and some light hairlines on the caseback. The dial is clean with no signs of age and the hallmarks and engravings are still deep and legible on the caseback. It retains its original 18K white gold deployant and does not come with its original box or papers. The watch is in full working order.
