  • This is the Cartier Baignoire Allongee reference 2515. Originally introduced in 1957 with roots dating back to as early as 1912, the Baignoire’s nomenclature is derived from the French word for bathtub given its aesthetic resemblance to the subject with its dramatically elongated and oval-shaped case. A highly experimental and avant-garde design that stood apart from other watches of that era, the Baignoire remains one of Cartier’s most desirable shapes alongside the Crash and the Cloche.

Characterized by the signature case shape and elongated Roman numerals, the Cartier Baignoire has been produced in several shapes and forms over the years with arguably the most famous being the Maxi Oval. The aforementioned model, the Baignoire Allongee, is among the longest of the Baignoire models and likely one of the most striking. More commonly seen in quartz, the reference 2515 is powered by the Frederic Piguet 610 manual wind movement and decorated with a guilloche dial. A true homage to the original design from the mid 20th century, the reference is a modern interpretation with the classic aesthetics that has remained highly successful for the brand since the advent of its wristwatches.

When one speaks of Cartier, the allure draws from the unique and distinctive case shapes. As a jewellery powerhouse, it’s clear that their eye for design has carried over into their timepieces and rather than focusing on competing on watchmaking, the brand has carved a niche within a crowded space to differentiate itself aesthetically. Outrageously classy may sound like a paradox but for the house of Cartier, it has become the true definition of the brand.

  • This Cartier Baignoire Allongee is very good overall condition. There are some hairlines on the case from prior wear but without any dings or dents to the case. The caseback engravings are still crisp and legible. The dial has no signs of aging and it retains its original Cartier strap and 18k buckle. The watch is in full working order.
