Rolex Datejust 16014 Blue Buckley
Description
This is the Rolex Datejust reference 16014. The Datejust is Rolex’s staple, their best selling and most famous dress model in the Rolex lineup. The Datejust was originally released in 1945 as the first automatic watch with a date function.
Through the years, the Datejust has evolved greatly with all sorts of different configurations. This particular variant is known as the Buckley due the uniqueness of the dial. Most commonly found on models dated between the 1970s to 1980s, the Buckley is unique in that the indices are painted Romans. These painted numerals are consistent across all Buckley dials.
As with other Datejusts, the Buckley nickname was bestowed on by collectors as they tend to be on the most beloved pieces. It was named after John Buckley, a vintage jeweller in New York who was a proponent of these unique painted on dials which were less popular at that time.
Given the uncommon nature of the Buckley variant, it is little wonder that they have become one of the more collectible Datejust variants today. This is especially so with vintage Rolexes, where very minor nuances determine the demand.
Condition
This Rolex Datejust 16014 is in good pre-owned condition. The case appears to have been lightly polished in the past, though the lugs still remain nice and even. The lume plots are full with matching patina on the hands. There is a small spot of paint loss near the hands in an otherwise excellent condition dial. The 62510H bracelet has some stretch from prior wear and has 19 links with a F-stamped clasp code. On the caseback, there is a small ding. The serial and reference numbers are still clearly visible and the watch is in full working order.
