Franck Muller Jump Hour 7500SC
Description
This is the Franck Muller Jump Hour reference 7500SC. A true watchmaker, Franck Muller began his career doing restorations for brands such as Patek Philippe before setting up his eponymous brand in 1991. Known as the Master of Complications, Franck Muller himself specialised in complicated wristwatches, culminating in two titles of the “most complicated wristwatch in the world”.
While Franck Muller today is far from it’s heyday in the early 2000s when the brand was among the most popular in the world, the Cintree Curvex case has always been a mainstay and formed the base case shape for other models such as the Conquistador and also for this particular 7500SC Jump Hour. The brand, in today’s context, has evolved into one that is more known for oversized numerals and over-the-top designs rather than subtlety.
This Jump Hour, however, is a homage to the time when a more conservative case size and watch design was warranted. Dressed with Breguet-style minute markers as well as the jump hour numeral, the watch measures 29 x 38 in the signature tonneau shaped platinum case with a silver guilloche dial. The 7500SC Jump Hour looks deceivingly minimalist given the complication behind it and the movement is a highly modified ETA 7001 with a jumping hour module.
Unfortunately for the brand, it appears to have lost its previous luster due to lawsuits and scandals. It’s a pity as earlier Franck Mullers exude a level of charm and ingenuity that is in my opinion lacking in their more modern offerings. As an early independent, the early Franck Mullers have also risen in popularity together with several others of their time and it’s fortunate that watches such as these are still exchanging hands as proof of the beauty of the earlier work from the “Master of Complications” himself.
Condition
This Franck Muller 7500SC Jump Hour is in excellent pre-owned condition. The platinum case has some signs of wear with a small ding near the 25-minute marker. All the caseback engravings are still clear and the caseback remains in excellent condition for its age. The crystal has a small hairline near the 5-minute marker which will be visible under a loupe. The jump hour mechanism is crisp and it comes with the original set of box and certificate. The watch is in full working order.
