Franck Muller Jump Hour 2852 D HS
Description
This is the Franck Muller Jump Hour reference 2852 D HS. A true watchmaker, Franck Muller began his career doing restorations for brands such as Patek Philippe before setting up his eponymous brand in 1991. Known as the Master of Complications, Franck Muller himself specialised in complicated wristwatches, culminating in two titles of the “most complicated wristwatch in the world”.
While Franck Muller today is far from it’s heyday in the early 2000s when the brand was among the most popular in the world, the Cintree Curvex case has always been a mainstay and formed the base case shape for other models such as the Conquistador and also for this particular 2852 D HS Jump Hour. The brand, in today’s context, has evolved into one that is more known for oversized numerals and over-the-top designs.
This Jump Hour, however, is a homage to the time with more conservative case sizes and aesthetics. Subtle and understated, the 2852 D HS is dressed with Breguet-style minute markers as well as a Breguet-style jump hour numeral. The watch measures 31 x 36 in the signature tonneau shaped white gold case with a silver guilloche dial. In addition to the jump hour, the 2852 D HS also has the GMT complication alongside the moonphase, both adjustable by pushers on either side of the crown.
Unfortunately for the brand, it appears to have lost its previous luster due to lawsuits and scandals. It’s a pity as earlier Franck Mullers exude a level of charm and ingenuity that is in my opinion lacking in their more modern offerings. As an early independent, the early Franck Mullers have also risen in popularity together with several others of their time and it’s fortunate that watches such as these are still exchanging hands as proof of the beauty of the earlier work from the “Master of Complications” himself.
Condition
This Franck Muller 2852 Jump Hour is in very good pre-owned condition. The dial and crystal is clean and the caseback remains in very good condition with crisp engravings. There are some hairlines on the front case from prior wear but no dings on the case. The watch retains its original strap and white gold buckle and is in full working order.
