Cartier Tank Americaine 1735B CPCP
Description
This is the Cartier Tank Americaine 1735B from the CPCP collection. The history of the Cartier Tank is one that barely needs any introduction, given that it has been covered excessively. The origins of the Tank began in 1917, inspired by war machines of the same name. Given the success of the original Tank, Cartier began to vary the types of Tank to leverage on the success of the model. The iconic original curved Tank, the Cintree, was introduced in 1921. This was something refreshing and unexpected, for a curved watch was not something that was anticipated to be well received in the more conservative times of the past.
In 1989, the Tank Americaine was introduced as another variation. As the 90s ushered in the era of larger timepieces, the bigger Tank Americaine was befitting of the trends at that time. Reminiscent of a Cintree, the Americaine had a curved case with a much flatter caseback. It wears unlike the Cintree given that the Cintree shapes the wrist and the Americaine sits on it. In 1995, the white gold variant was introduced with a much shorter production period than its yellow and rose gold counterparts. It was only until many years later that Cartier decided to manufacture the Americaine in steel.
In addition, this was from the Collection Privee Cartier Paris, or CPCP, collection. The collection ran for a decade from 1998 to 2008 as a celebration of historically important and timeless models. All the watches were manufactured in precious metal with a floral motif spanning into a guilloche design on the dial. The CPCP watches are also notable with PARIS stamped directly under Cartier on the dial and are amongst the most collectible within the brand.
Condition
This Cartier Tank Americaine 1735B is in excellent pre-owned condition. The caseback remains pristine with very minor signs of wear and with the caseback sticker still intact and clear hallmarks and engravings. There are some very light hairlines on the case from prior wear but remains in excellent condition for its age. The watch appears to be unpolished and retains the original papers dated 2004 with the original strap and 18k yellow gold buckle.
