Breguet Classique Power Reserve Moonphase 3130BA
Description
This is the Breguet Classique Moonphase reference 3130. While Breguet may not be the first brand mentioned by collectors today, the brand has one of the strongest legacies when it comes to watchmaking. Originally established in the late 18th century, Louis Breguet was an early adopter of the steel hands with circle motifs, the curved numerals and the guilloche pattern on the dial. The design language is distinctive even up till today. The “Souscription”, a single-hand pocket watch, is one of the most important and famous pocket watches in history. In the early 19th century, Louis Breguet invented the Tourbillion, which is one of the most sought after complications in horology.
The reference 3130 was introduced under the stewardship of Daniel Roth during the era of the Chaumet brothers’ ownership. Alongside the reference 3330, these two references were inspired by early pocket watches with the 3130 adopting the same layout as the pocket watch no. 5 delivered by Breguet in 1794. These two references underpinned the successful revival of Breguet under Daniel Roth and the Chaumet brothers which met a premature end due to the owners falling into financial troubles and Daniel Roth leaving the brand soon thereafter.
Encased in yellow gold, the dial layout is almost identical to pocket watch no. 5 with the power reserve at the 10 and the moonphase at the 2. The dial also features many elements distinct to the brand such as the guilloche dial and concentric blue hands Produced during a period that produced references which have regained popularity, the 3130 is powered by the Breguet Cal. 502 based on the ultra-thin F Piguet 71 which is housed beneath the closed caseback.
With a case size of 36mm and a thickness of only 8mm, the 3130 is an importance reference that carries the brand’s DNA to the modern era. While Breguets have traditionally been fairly undervalued considering the historical significance and fine watchmaking associated with the brand, it is encouraging to see that the brand has seen a significant increase in interest, especially the ones from the neo-vintage period.
Condition
This Breguet 3130 is in overall good condition. There are some light signs of wear on the case which remains sharp and free of dings or dents. The caseback has some pronounced surface scratches from prior wear with the hallmarks and caseback engravings still crisp and clear. The dial is clean with no signs of wear. It comes with its original box, open papers, Breguet strap and 18K deployant buckle. The watch is in full working order.
