This is the Blancpain New Classic 2021-3630-55. Founded in 1735 by the mayor of Villeret, Jehan-Jacques Blancpain, the brand is renowned, among other things, for creating the world’s first modern dive watch, the Fifty Fathoms, in 1953 and never having applied a quartz movement in any of its timepieces. This was famously commercialized with the tagline "Since 1735 there has never been a quartz Blancpain watch. And there never will be." when the brand was helmed by the legendary Jean-Claude Biver.
This particular reference, the New Classic, was introduced in the late 1990s as a limited edition of 300 pieces with a rose gold case. With a dial aesthetic reminiscent of the reference 7002, the New Classic shares some similarities with its more famous counterpart. Featuring the same Breguet-style Arabic numerals on the dial as well as a 36mm case size, there are some subtle yet key differences between the two. Running on the ultra-thin F. Piguet Cal. 21, the New Classic is slimmer than the 7002 at only 6.3mm. It was also produced in a limited run of 300 pieces in rose gold with non-limited editions in yellow gold.
The stepped case, unique index configuration and a timeless combination of black and rose gold renders the Blancpain New Classic is somewhat of a value proposition from the brand’s neo-vintage era. This Blancpain New Classic is in very good pre-owned condition. The bezel has some signs of wear in the form of hairline scratches without any dings or dents. The caseback engravings are still deep and legible. The dial has no signs of wear but there is some loss of AR material on the crystal. The watch retains its original buckle only without box or papers and is in full working order.
